We’re thrilled to announce that Dorset House has won a Gold Award from Taste of the West for the second year running.
Owners Lyn and Jason Martin reopened Dorset House in Lyme Regis in 2014 after a complete refurbishment.
Lyn says: ‘I’m really pleased that Taste of the West has recognised our commitment to local produce.’
She adds: ‘For us it’s all about bringing new visitors to Lyme. People who want to taste the fabulous local food and discover all the great things the area has to offer.’
Dorset House specialises in offering seasonal, home-cooked breakfasts using local ingredients, organic whenever possible.
Running a B&B was a complete lifestyle change for the Martins. Lyn previously worked for Jaguar LandRover and Jason was a tennis pro. He’s still a tennis coach and involved with local clubs.
Jason says: ‘We fell in love with Lyme and it took us three years to find the right place.’
‘I remember when we first came here; we stopped by the beach for a coffee and looked at the landscape all around. We knew this was where we wanted to live and it was quite emotional.’
Taste of the West winners
Lyn and Jason moved to Lyme from Oxfordshire in 2013 with their three children.
It took them a year renovate Dorset House before they re-opened the doors in May 2014.
Lyn adds: ‘Three-quarters of our guests haven’t been here before, or not since they were kids. So we feel we are contributing to Lyme’s successful local economy by attracting new visitors.’
The Martins’ support of local causes extends beyond the gorgeous breakfasts. Jason is head coach at Seaton Tennis Club and a trustee of the newly formed Uplyme and Lyme Regis Tennis Club. This means he is actively involved in raising funds to re-open the Uplyme court after the flood damage of 2012.
