Dorset House in Lyme Regis has just been named ‘Best Bed and Breakfast’ in the Dorset Tourism Awards for the fourth time. The award ceremony, in keeping with the times, was held over Zoom with virtual networking events held ahead of the ceremony to allow entrants to meet their fellow hospitality colleagues.

The event organisers had gone to tremendous effort to maintain the sense of occasion, despite the virtual nature of the event. Sponsors even delivered a ‘goodie box’ ahead of the event so that we had a special tipple to celebrate with.

The Dorset Tourism Awards judges praised the unprecedented attention to detail and dedication to customer service of owners Lyn and Jason Martin.

‘It’s an incredible boost to be recognised in this way,’ said Lyn, ‘We’ve tried to make Dorset House the kind of place we would like to stay ourselves. Imaginative, health conscious breakfasts, stylish and comfortable rooms and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere are at the heart of what we do.’

Winning the ‘Best B&B’ Award puts Dorset House through to the South West finals where we will compete against colleagues from Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Bath and Bristol for the coveted “Best of the South West’ Award. Let’s hope that by that stage we are back to being able to meet up ‘in real life’ as it’s always uplifting to share stories (and a drink or two!) with other hospitality professionals.

This has been a period of success for Dorset House. We’ve been a finalist in the Visit England national awards and have been awarded the AA’s highest accolade of Five Star Gold. We’ve been listed by the Good Hotel Guide, the UK’s top independent guide offering impartial advice on where to stay. And it is number one Lyme Regis B&B on TripAdvisor with more than 1000 five-star reviews. Dorset House’s commitment to sustainability is demonstrated by awards from GreenTourism and TripAdvisor’s Green Leaders Scheme.
