The Shoreline Sauna based on the main beach is the perfect way to enjoy the relaxing benefits of a sauna and a cold water swim. You can enjoy the thrill of a sea swim (or dip) knowing that you will soon warm up again. And if the sea is not for you, there are options to cool down by the sauna.
Paddleboarding and kayaking are the perfect ways to explore the coves and beaches. In season, paddleboards and kayaks (both single and double), can be rented next to the sandy beach. During the high season it is a good idea to book the day before.
Lyme offers ample opportunities for fishing and sightseeing by boat. One way is in the genial company of Harry May. His fishing tours (bookable in advance) include all equipment such as life vests and fishing rods and you will be shown the best tips and tricks to catch mackerel or other fish. Dogs are welcome aboard! Nick at Lyme Regis Boat Tours also offers shorter 1 hour mackeral fishing trips, 3 hour deep sea fishing, and sightseeing tours. Both can be booked for private group charters, just call.
For an exhilarating thrill, you can travel at speed on a RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) across the bay. Whizz across the bay, take a water taxi to West Bay, or book one of the tours with Lyme Bay Rib Rides that take in sights from Beer Head to West Bay. The rides leave from The Cobb and must be pre-booked. They can also work with you to design a private custom day trip.
The benefits of wild swimming have been well catalogued and a sunrise dip in our gorgeous bay certainly lifts the spirits. If you want to swim more seriously, Malcolm from Lyme Bay Swimming offers private lessons in the bay whenever conditions permit. And of course, there’s very little in life that can beat the relaxing effect of listening to the waves breaking on the shore. The light and shadows on the cliffs during sunrise and sunset further amplify the beauty of the Jurassic Coast, and the reason we feel so fortunate to live in Lyme Regis.
