We believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So we get your day off to a great start with a tasty, relaxing and healthy breakfast around our communal table. We have a host of fabulous local suppliers and work hard to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. We source organic food where possible.
All of our food is home-made so we know exactly what has gone into the dishes that we serve. As such we are well placed to deal with speciality diets (although some advance warning is very much appreciated).
We’re aware that a cooked breakfast is part of the deal for many when staying in a B&B. We offer a full English – cooked your way as well as a seasonal daily special. We also understand if you fancy pancakes and maple syrup – just because they make you feel like a kid again!
Here’s a little insight into what makes our breakfast special:
We know that a great coffee makes for a great day. So we’ve brought in the experts to ensure that your day gets off to the best possible start. Dave at Crankhouse Coffee expertly selects the very best beans to roast and blend locally. We grind fresh every morning and slow brew for the best possible flavour. We even place freshly ground coffee in your room – no instant here.
All of our sausages and bacon come from the 380 acre Downhouse Farm at Eype. This organic farm stretches along the coastal path on National Trust land towards Bridport. The Large White cross Duroc forage on lush grass and clover overlooking the sea to produce the tastiest, juiciest meat.
Home Made Bread
There’s usually an aroma of bread baking in the Aga at Dorset House. Perhaps our Sourdough – lovely toasted with mushrooms and poached eggs or a nice seeded loaf to mop up the bacon juices. Our flour is organic from Shipton Mill and we can usually rustle up spelt pancakes or muffins if you fancy.
Home Made Granola
Sometimes a cooked breakfast feels like too much, or maybe you’re a starter and main course breakfast fan. Either way, home-made granola is baked in the Aga with organic oats and seeds and a healthy sprinkling of almonds and raisins. It’s delicious served with our organic Brown Cow yogurt and fruit
Eggs are locally produced and organic from Haye farm in Musbury, milk and butter are local, non-homogenised and organic. We promote gut health and ferment our own Kombucha and Kefir. We also offer a range of herbal teas and make every effort to cater for all tastes although forewarning for specialist diets is much appreciated.
In good weather please feel free to take breakfast on the veranda – if you stand on tip-toes, you can even see the sea!
